Packing for Kilimanjaro is all about layering. The weather changes constantly as you climb, and you need to be ready for everything from tropical rain to freezing summit conditions.

ESSENTIALS (Bring from Home)
• Waterproof hiking boots (broken in!)
• Sleeping bag rated to -10°C
• Headlamp with spare batteries
• Trekking poles
• Daypack (25-30L)
• Water bottles or hydration bladder

CLOTHING LAYERS
• Moisture-wicking base layers (x2-3)
• Insulating mid-layer (fleece or down)
• Waterproof outer shell jacket and pants
• Warm hat and gloves (summit-grade)
• Sun hat and sunglasses
• Gaiters (for rainy seasons)

WHAT TO RENT LOCALLY
• Heavy-duty sleeping bag (if you don't want to fly with one)
• Trekking poles (available in Moshi)
• Duffel bag for porters to carry

WHAT NOT TO BRING
• Cotton clothing (retains moisture, takes forever to dry)
• Jeans (heavy and useless in rain)
• Too many electronics (keep it simple)
• Single-use plastic (we're committed to sustainability)
