The Unsung Heroes: A Day in the Life of a Porter

calendar_today August 31, 2026
Every morning on the mountain, before the sun even touches the peaks, our porters are already at work. They pack the camp, load 20 kg onto their heads or backs, and start hiking — often arriving at the next campsite before the climbers do.

At Team Raha, we believe our porters are family. That's why we're KPAP certified — ensuring fair wages, proper gear, adequate food, and reasonable weight limits.

Here's what a typical day looks like for one of our porters:

5:00 AM — Wake up, prepare breakfast for the team.
6:00 AM — Break down camp and pack equipment.
7:00 AM — Begin hiking with a full load on head or back.
12:00 PM — Arrive at the next campsite, set up tents.
1:00 PM — Serve lunch to climbers and guides.
2:00 PM — Rest and prepare for dinner.
6:00 PM — Serve dinner, clean up.
8:00 PM — Sleep, ready to do it all again tomorrow.

When you climb with us, you're supporting a team that treats every member with dignity. We pay above-average wages, provide proper waterproof gear, and ensure no porter carries more than 20 kg.

If you'd like to support our porters further, you can add a porter gratuity during the booking process.
